Blackjack Etiquette – Play Nice
When it comes to live blackjack, people are playing within close vicinity to one another and this means there are certain unwritten rules to keep a sense of decorum in place. The blackjack rules of etiquette are not complex but are vital in keeping a game running smoothly.
Dealers Should Be Tipped
No matter if the game is going your way or is going down the tube, the dealer should be occasionally tipped. The dealer earns a good deal of his living off of tips and remember, he does not determine the outcome of the game.
Touching the Cards
Cards that are dealt with their faces up should never be touched and if they are face down, players should only touch them with one hand. Never overhandle the cards.
Touching the Chips
After you place your bet, you can not touch your cards. Casinos have strict rules about this and will enforce them with no hesitation.
Berating Others
Even though most people think a bad player can destroy the odds of a blackjack game, this is not true. All blackjack players are allowed to enjoy and play the game as they see fit so do not be rude if you think they mishandled a play.
The Dealer Is Not Your Friend or Enemy
The dealer takes bets, deals cards, and keeps the game going in an orderly fashion. That is all he does. He is not responsible for a player’s bad hand nor is he the person to ask for advice.
Smoking and Drinking
If you must smoke or drink, do not excessively do so at the game table. People do not like smoke blown in their face and they certainly do not like dealing with drunk players.
Pay Attention
Keep your mind on the game. An inattentive blackjack player can slow down the game’s pace. Constantly reminding a player to take their turn is annoying.
